I’ve always carried out a certain amount of reportage – recording significant political events. I’m still doing it.
When right-wing anti-immigrant thugs descended on Brighton in 2026 to attempt a march, they were met by thousands of Brighton citizens determined to prevent them.
A group of ‘Patriots’ got trapped in a pub not far from Brighton station. Their speeches had to be delivered through a barely opened window.
While outside, there was music and solidarity. And the constant chant of “Whose streets? – OUR streets!”
Finally, a sad return home …

Another Brighton demonstration took place in 2025, with hundreds of people protesting against the Nakba – the forced displacement of Palestinians from their homeland.
Marchers carried strips of linen bearing the names of some of the thousands of murdered Palestinian children.
Music and solidarity along the seafront.
And a tiny counter-demonstration. Why do these ‘Patriots’ so often fly their Union flag the wrong way up? . . .

The biggest demonstrations in recent years were in 2016 – showing our opposition to the Brexit disaster.
Thousands and thousands of people filled Whitehall and Parliament Square, making their feelings clear.
‘UNITY IS STRENGTH’ – reminding people that London is a very cosmopolitan city – we don’t want to be cut off from Europe.
